No worries, since wine clubs ship on a regular schedule, some of the better ones have created ways for you to give a gift on the holiday, even if the gift isn't the wine itself.

We love The California Wine Club and it tops many of our lists of best wine clubs. It's an especially great gift item. If you've waited to loo long to have the wine there by the big day, have no fear, they've got you covered with how to give the gift before the wine arrives.
Download and Print: The California Wine Club offers a downloadable gift notice that is really nicely designed. You fill it out yourself after you print it. We recommend using a black Sharpie when writing over printer ink.
Mail: The California Wine Club does not offer a mailed gift notice other than the gift itself.
Email: Notice is emailed immediately when you make the card, but is not part of the checkout process so you can buy the gift anytime and go online to send the gift notice on the big day. The email directs the gift recipient to view the postcard on the The California Wine Club website. The presentation on this is just okay.
Gift wrap: All gifts from The California Wine Club include gift-wrapped bottles and a beautiful welcome packet with a full-color magazine and a $25 credit for use in their wine store.
The Premier Series is their primary wine club designed for maximum enjoyment and minimum cost to you. Two bottles of California wine from boutique wineries throughout the state. Through December 26, all gifts ship with 2-Day Delivery (rules are determined by the shipping companies) for the price of ground shipping. (Only applies to first month of shipping, may not be available in all states.)
We also love the Gold Medal Wine Club and it also tops many of our lists of best wine clubs. It's an especially great gift item. If you've waited too long to get the wine there by the big day, have no fear, they've got you covered with how to give the gift before the wine arrives.
Download and Print: Gold Medal offers a downloadable gift card that you can customize online. It's a little on the plain side but it gets the job done.
Mail: At checkout, you can opt to have your gift notice mailed to your recipient. The gift card they send is nicely designed and you can customize the gift message. This option is an additional $2.50.
Email: Gold Medal doesn't have an email option for gift notices.
Gift wrap: Gift packaging is usually extra, and they've got some terrific gift packaging, however our customers have an outstanding deal available to them this holiday season — FREE artist gift box, gift wrapped bottles, gift card, AND a bonus bottle of Reserve Meritage. This exclusive deal is good through December 31.

We also love Winc and it also has a place on many of our lists of best wine clubs. It's an especially great gift item. Since all of their wine membership gifts are gift cards that get redeemed at the convenience of the recipient, no shipping deadlines apply to Winc gifts, but it does mean their gift notices are extra important.
Download and Print: When you purchase a gift from Winc, you can customize a gift notice to be downloaded and printed. It's a little stark like their other branding, but the typography is elegant and more importantly, there are instructions on how to redeem the gift!
Mail: At checkout, you can opt to have your gift notice mailed to your recipient. They offer FedEx ground shipping for $6 (this is probably good until December 19th) and FedEx Overnight for $20. These notices are beautiful in and of themselves.
Email: When you purchase a gift from Winc, you can customize a gift notice to be emailed. It's a little stark like their other branding, but the typography is elegant and more importantly, there are instructions on how to redeem the gift! The email notice is sent immediately, so if you're opting for email, wait to order until the day you want to give the gift.
Gift wrap: Since you're giving a gift card to be used toward a membership, there is no gift wrap — just the gift notices.
Winc subscriptions allow the member to receive wines geared toward their personal preferences, or they can choose their own wines. Wines range from $13 to $30+ but most are $13. This is a great wine club for people just getting started in wine and those who want to explore different styles of wine.
Monthly Clubs has been a go-to wine club gift since 1994 and while many of their competitors haven't made it, the club has staying power because they really focus on gifting, both for the giver and recipient. VineBox is one of our new favorites. While most wine of the month clubs are focused on selling wine in quantity, VineBox has scaled back and instead sells in-home wine-tasting experiences. Each quartelry shipment features nine glass tubes of wine, each containing roughly 3.3 oz (a small glass of wine). The wines are super interesting, mostly old-world selections (think European wine regions) and are sophisticated selections you almost certainly have never seen before.
Downlad & Print: VineBox does not offer a Download & Print option.
Mail: VineBox does not offer a mailed gift announcement before the wine arrives.
Email: The default setting is to send the email as soon as you place your order, but you can opt to have it sent on any future date on the same screen where you add your custom gift message.
Gift wrap: VineBox's standard packaging is perfect for gifting. Each box is a well-designed treasure chest. The interior is composed of a dense, black foam that protects the tubes during shipment.
There are many “standard” two-bottle of the month wine clubs out there—one white, one red, virtually (and often literally) guaranteed not offend anyone. But if you’re intrigued by the unusual, distinctive, or boutique wines of the world, we suggest you take a look at this list of Most Interesting wine clubs.
Like most things, one size does not fit all in wine gifts. Our reviews outline the best wine club for gifts. We also have lists for red and white wine gifts.
You must really like some lucky wine drinker if you're on the hunt for the best red wine club gift! Most wine clubs offer "red wine only" versions of their month clubs, but this list of red wine gifts also includes special wine clubs that always ship only red wine.
If you know a white wine lover, a white wine only wine club membership is a fabulous gift—for both of you! As the gift-giver, you can save a few bucks since whites are usually cheaper than reds, and the recipient will get a box of happiness delivered each month, with white wines they may not have tried or discovered yet.
In addition to the selection of best wine clubs based on general consumer preferences and what our readers like, we've gone ahead and cherry-picked the monthly wine clubs we'd most likely join if we weren't getting the subscriptions for free.
